Companies/Employers/Business Owners who had W2 Employees in 2020 and 2021 can earn a payroll tax credit (paid back to them in a check) up to $26,000 per employee. It is not a loan and they don't have to pay it back. They are called Employee Retention Credits and were enacted as part of the CARES act during Covid.
The IRS code is complex and most business owners (over 85%) still have not taken advantage of this credit- and they can get it even if they got a PPP loan (most don't know this).
They simply need to have W2 employees (family does not count) and ANY of the following: Reduction in Sales in 2020 or 2021 as they compare to 2019, or
Negative Impact from a Government Mandate, or
Started a new business after February 15, 2019.
If they meet the eligibility requirements in paragraph 3, they may be due a credit.
We have contracted with an ERC expert team of Licensed CPAs and Tax Attorneys to determine eligibility and to maximize the exact credit due to the Employer.
Most CPAs and accountants are not doing this because of the time required for each business - and on average - our CPA team can help identify and verify an additional 20% credit for an employer- more than they'd find using inexperienced accountants or going it alone.
Our partner CPA team has agreed to do all the up front work without charging anything up front to the client - and only charging a fee IF and AFTER a credit is verified and the check is received by the employer. As mentioned - they generally find 20% more for the clients - and they only charge 20% of the credit.. Most are charging that or more AND requiring a deposit up front-yet may not find all the eligible credits.
There are limits to the number of employees a business can have. 100 full-time employees in 2019 - as the maximum for the 2020 credits; and 500 full-time employees in 2019 is the maximum to get a 2021 credit.
You can see how some people are getting very large credits. Some math samples: A company with 100 employees could get up to $2.6 million. Even if they only were entitled to half = $1.3million.
40 employees could get up to 1.28million. Again, even if only half = $600k.
